"I do not strive to use my artwork to change one's perception of the world, unless that perception is objective and in conformity with prevailing realities. What I will use my artwork to do is to highlight poverty, hunger, homelessness, and other social evils that are the lot of millions of humanity. This brings to mind the artist Van Gogh, for whom I have the greatest admiration. He inspires me with his work because in almost every one of his pieces he brings a style to it that is easily identifiable. He also revolutionized painting by incorporating a great style of his own. The painting appears to be so thickly laid down that the observer appears to be drawn to it physically and emotionally. It is this type of artist with a touch of realism and airbrush medium that I strive to be." -- M. Salim Hylton
