The Salim Hylton Memorial Scholarship Fund has been organized primarily for artistic and educational purposes. This corporation’s intent and purpose is to offer financial opportunities to students to help them further their artistic potential. This in turn continues the legacy of Salim’s artwork and his investment in the youth of our communities.
The corporation is organized and operated exclusively for charitable, literary and educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code or corresponding provisions of any future federal tax code, and operating in corporation under the Non-Profit Corporation Act. No part of the net earnings of the corporation shall inure to the benefit of, or be distributable to its directors, officers, or other private persons, except that the corporation shall be authorized and empowered to pay reasonable compensation for services rendered and to make payments and distributions in furtherance of the purposes hereinabove stated. No substantial part of the activities of the corporation shall be carrying on of propaganda or otherwise attempting to influence legislation. The corporation shall not participate in or intervene in (including the publishing of and distribution of statements) any political campaign on behalf of or in opposition to any candidate for public office. Notwithstanding any other provisions contained herein, the corporation shall not carry on any activities not permitted to be carried on: 1. by any organization exempt from taxation under Internal Revenue Code Section 510(c)(3), or the corresponding section of any future federal tax code; or 2. by a corporation, contributions to which are deductible under Section 170(c)(2) of the Internal Revenue Code, or the corresponding section of any future federal tax code.
